How to repair a zebronics mic

Recently my Mic in the Zebronics headset started to stay idle even after connected to the desktop. There was no sign of any recording device being connected to my desktop.So I recognized this situation, probably the connection wire to the Mic should have been worn out, because the ear phones were properly working.
The only choice I was left out with was to check the wire for connectivity.Fortunately in the first test itself I was able to identify the cause. The volume control placed in the middle of the connecting wire had dis-connected the Mic wire.So I just removed that control and connected all the wires directly.
But the volume will be maximum all the time in the ear phone,even it can be adjusted by using master volume control.
