Diver's delight

It is not marvelous to receive a phone call, but it is when you are dived 30 feet underwater. This is made possible by a new phone devised by France Telecom. The phone comes with a long wire which is attached to a buoy on the surface of the water. The buoy contains a GSM unit that will pick up the signals and relays it to the phone. It also has a dial pad, a light, a buzzer and a mouthpiece. The buzzer and light alerts the diver of an incoming call. The person should bite on the mouthpiece to receive a call and hears through sound vibrations that reverberate in the diver’s skull towards the ear. The diver can also talk back and use the dialing pad to call anybody. Finally connectivity extends into the oceans.
